Diary: San Francisco

October 1999
Very like the Humber Bridge,
except for the mountains and sunshine,
the cable cars, and the absence of
sheep
In October we we were in San Francisco, the home of mountain biking, cycle activism, and us for three weeks. And what a great place it is: beautiful, lively, good people, great food. We were here staying with friends of friends (as they are for now). So thanks very much Paul Jasper and of course Pete Coe - congratulations on the wedding Pete. We were there on Saturday 9 October at Peju Winery in the Napa Valley on a lovely day: the sun was shining, and so were our noses by the end of the night.

Rob and Rebecca smarter than they usually are

We hired bikes and trundled over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, round town seeing the Mexican murals and astounding hilltop views, up and down the excitingly landslipped country roads roundabout. And of course we've cycled down down Lombard St, which is the Third Crookedest Street in the world. The Second Crookedest is Vermont St across town (MUCH more corkscrewy than its touristy rival), while the Most Crooked Street is, of course, Wall St in New York...

Oh, and finally - Rob grew a beard (see pic) but has now shaved it off. The moustache was too ginger and the beard too grey.
